Your Canyon Gate Dental doctors and staff look forward to meeting you and making your first visit as comfortable and beneficial as possible. At Canyon Gate Dental, it is our goal to meet and exceed expectations for each patient that walks in our door. We understand the importance of a healthy, attractive smile, and are eager to help you not only achieve yours, but also maintain it for a lifetime. Whether you have a toothache, or are looking for family or cosmetic dentistry, we guarantee that you will be impressed by our friendly staff, high-quality dental work, and prevention-focused approach to oral health.
After walking into our office and receiving a warm welcome from our office staff, you’ll be asked to fill out a few forms. This helps our team get to know you better and learn how we can cater to your individual needs, as well as give you information about our office policies. It is always a good idea to arrive a few minutes early to give yourself time to complete paperwork.

We will take a series of digital x-ray images in order to get a good, detailed look at your mouth and provide you with the best comprehensive care. x-rays help us see and diagnose dental issues like cavities, gum disease, etc. that are not visible to the naked eye. Rest assured that we take your comfort and safety seriously in our office; we only take x-rays that are absolutely necessary and use equipment that doesn’t hurt your mouth. With state-of-the-art digital technology, our x-rays use an extremely small amount of radiation (you actually get more radiation per year by just living in Utah than you do taking a full set of dental x-rays!).
Many dental offices do not offer cleanings on the first visit. We respect the fact that you make arrangements to visit us which may involve taking time away from work, getting someone to watch the kids, etc. Your time is valuable and we want you to leave our office feeling like we took excellent care of you.
We will review your medical history and x-rays and discuss the reason for your visit. Either Dr. Payne or Dr. Young will team up with your dental hygienist and perform a thorough examination of your mouth, including an oral cancer screening. If there are issues that need addressed, we will make a treatment plan and have a discussion about it. At Canyon Gate Dental, we want to be partners with you in taking care of your teeth, and think education and taking the time to help you understand your oral health are essential components of a successful plan.
After discussing your treatment options with the doctor, you’ll meet with one of our patient care specialists who can answer any questions you may have about financial and insurance matters. At Canyon Gate Dental we emphasize comprehensive care, which to us means taking care of immediate issues and catching small problems before they get larger and more expensive. We offer payment plans for larger treatment plans and are dedicated to making things work no matter what kind of budget you may have.
We work hard to make sure you are able to get your dental work done in a timely manner and offer a variety of days and times (even some evenings and Saturdays) for your convenience. If you are in pain, we will do everything possible to treat you on your first visit. We try our best to be flexible and accommodating for all patients, regardless of their schedules.
After your first visit, you’ll have a comprehensive treatment plan to take home with you and you’ll know your out-of-pocket cost for each procedure. We take the time to explain and educate in our office and have several resources available to help you understand your treatment plan. We always encourage questions and are happy to help you understand anything that is unfamiliar to you. At Canyon Gate Dental, we recognize that the most important part of any treatment plan is you! We are excited to be partners with you in your dental care and look forward to seeing you for years to come.
